Report on Dr. Vyas's program - NMAMIT

The Department of Mechanical Engg., NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte in association with The Institution of Engineers (I), Mangalore Local Centre organized a Technical Talk on “Technology Mission For Indian Railways” on 10-07-2017 at 11.30 AM in Shambavi Seminar Hall, NMAMIT, Nitte. Dr. Nalinaksh S Vyas, Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engg., IIT Kanpur and Chairman, Technology Mission for Indian Railways, Ministry of Railways, Govt. of India was the speaker. He spoke at length about the various R & D initiatives taken first under Technology Mission for Safety of Railways, which started in 2003 and the new technology mission which started in 2015. He gave examples of several projects related to areas of safety of Indian Railways, which was contributed by students. He stressed the need for active involvement of students and faculty in this mission so that we can develop cost effective systems, which will compete with some of the best systems in the world. Dr. Niranjan N.Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT, Dr. Shashikantha Karinka, Head, Dept. of Mechanical Engg., NMAMIT, Nitte, Office bearers of IE(I), MLC, Professors from NMAMIT and NITK, Surathkal were present. Dr. Srinivasa Pai P, Dept. of Mechanical Engg., NMAMIT welcomed the gathering, introduced the guest speaker and proposed the formal vote of thanks. Prof. G.R.Rai, Former Principal, NMAMIT, Nitte and Chairman, Institution of Valuers, Mangalore Chapter was also present on the occasion.
