Hands-on workshop on “Three generations of PCR and their applications” - NUCSER

NUCSER conducted a three-day training workshop on “Three Generations of PCR and their applications” from 2nd to 4th July, 2019. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is one of the most important discoveries in the field of molecular biology, which brought in paradigm changes in the area of infectious and genetic disease diagnosis. The aim of the workshop was to introduce the participants to all the advances in this technology with a focus on infectious disease research, and to impart hands-on training to them. NUCSER is one of the few academic centres in the country that has all the three versions of PCR.

Prof. (Dr). Indrani Karunasagar, Director (R&D), Nitte (DU) and NUCSER welcomed the gathering. Prof. Dr. Alka Kulkarni, Registrar, Nitte (DU) inaugurated the workshop. In her address, she emphasized on the importance of practical skills among healthcare professionals and how these kinds of training workshops can benefit the stakeholders in disease diagnosis and management.

Prof. Dr. Iddya Karunasagar, Sr. Director - International Relations,Nitte (DU) presided over the program and gave a brief overview on the history of PCR and how this technology has evolved over the years. The dignitaries also released the training manual on this occasion. A total of 28 participants including undergraduate/post-graduate students, Ph.D/research scholars and faculty from various institutes in Karnataka and neighbouring states took part in the workshop. Prof. Anirban Chakraborty, Dy. Director; Dr. Biswajit Maiti, Assoc. Professor; Dr. Praveen Rai, Assoc. Professor and Dr. Deekshit, Asst. Professor from the Institute were the resource persons.
