Celebrations to commemorate Breastfeeding Practices are held from 1st to 7th August, every year. The Department of Pediatrics, KSHEMA in association with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, DK Branch organized a Workshop on Lactation on 2nd August, 2019 followed by postnatal rounds with practical sessions on 3rd August 2019.
The program was conducted at Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital with course faculty from Isabel Hospital and Mothers & Infants Lactation and Breastfeeding Centre (MILC), Chennai, on both the days.
Dr Subramanian S, Pediatrician, Dr Meenakshi Jandhyala, Neonatologist, Ms Shyla, Lactation & Neonatal Nurse, MILCC and Dr Seema Pavaman, Assoc. Professor, Department of Pediatrics were the resource persons.
The welcome address was given by Dr Rathika Shenoy, Professor & Head, Department of Pediatrics, KSHEMA. Dr Dhrithiman Shetty briefed the audience on this year’s theme of empowering women to breastfeed at work. Lectures included basics of lactation, case-based discussion addressing various feeding problems and milk banking. Workstations included demonstrations on breast feeding positions, feeding in special situations and aids in breast feeding.
The event was attended by a total of 40 delegates which included doctors, nursing faculty, nursing students and nurses working in PICU and NICU. The workshop received a lot of appreciation from participants.
