Traditional Knowledge and Herbal Medicine - NGSMIPS

A guest lecture on “Traditional Knowledge and Herbal Medicine” was organised by the Department of Pharmacognosy, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Mangalore on 24th January 2019 at Nitte Institute of Architecture, Paneer Campus. Dr.Suresh Negalaguli, Consultant Surgeon, Mangala Hospital and Professor, Muniyal Institute of Ayurvedic Medical Sciences, Manipal was the guest speaker for the occasion. Dr. CS Shastry, Principal, NGSMIPS introduced Dr. Negalaguli in his welcome address and spoke briefly on the importance of Ayurvedic system of medicine. In his talk, Dr.Negalaguli gave an insight into the traditional practices of Ayurveda from the perspective of an Ayurvedic medical practitioner. He cited fascinating examples that made it easier to comprehend the underlying principles of Ayurveda. He concluded the talk by elaborating on the pseudoscience practices rampant in Ayurveda and stressed on the need to adopt Good Manufacturing Practices in the production and standardization of Ayurvedic medications. The session was attended by the 4thyear and 6th semester B.Pharm students. Dr. Nimmy Kumar, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Pharmacognosy, NGSMIPS delivered the vote of thanks.
