News from NIPT | Alumni Talk 18

The Alumni Relations Cell of NIPT organized an alumni talk on 27th March 2025 through online mode. The session featured Ms. Susan Catherine Dsouza, a distinguished alumna from the MPT batch of 2015 and a practicing physiotherapist in Bihar and Mumbai, as the resource speaker.

Mr. Rakesh Krishna, Assoc. Professor & Convenor, Alumni Relations welcomed the gathering and introduced the speaker. Ms. Susan delivered an insightful session on the importance of Neuroplasticity, flexible flat feet, and recent advancements in the field.

A total of 39 MPT students participated in the session.





News from ABSMIDS | The Nitte University Badminton League 2025

The Nitte University Badminton League 2025, organized by ABSMIDS, was successfully held at the B C Alva Indoor Stadium on 28th & 29th March 2025. The tournament featured six competitive teams, owned by faculty members of Nitte University, with a total of 66 players participating.

The Tournament was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr) Siddharth Shetty, Dept. of Orthopaedics & Staff Advisor (Student Council), KSHEMA and Dr. Preethesh Shetty, Dept. of Conservative Dentistry & Asst. Dean (Student Welfare), ABSMIDS. The prize distribution ceremony was conducted by Dr. Nanda Kishore, Dept. of Orthodontics, ABSMIDS.

News from NUINS | NSS Annual Special Camp

The Annual Special Camp organized by the NSS Unit, NUINS at St. Lawrence Aided High School, Moodubelle from 3rd to 8th March 2025 was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Rikson Monterio of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle and presided over by Mr. Shashikumar Shetty, NSS Coordinator, Nitte University.

The chief guest for the event was Ms. Divya V Acharya, President, Gram Panchayath, Moodubelle. Other dignitaries included Mr. Ivan Menezes, President, Lions Club Moodubelle; Br. Philip Noronha, Principal, St. Lawrence Aided High School and NUINS faculty members Mr. Sukesh Shetty and Ms. Jeevitha Alva (NSS Program Officers), along with Mr. Sudhakar (Lecturer).

Various activities were conducted during the camp that included environmental cleanliness, playground renovation, community and school awareness programs, field visits, street plays, first aid training, personality development sessions and cultural events. The valedictory ceremony was held on 8th March 2025, with Mr. Shashidhar Vagle, Vice President, Gram Panchayat, Moodubelle as the chief guest. Ms. Veera Fernandes & Ms. Leena Dias, retired teachers from St. Lawrence Church School, Moodubelle were felicitated for their significant contribution in the field of education.

News from ABSMIDS | Free dental screening camp

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, ABSMIDS in association with the Lions Club, Metro Gold conducted a free dental screening camp at Mangala English Medium School, Mannagudda on 27.03.2025. Oral health education was given to the school children followed by a dental screening. 58 students had dental caries, malocclusion was identified in 4 students and chronic generalised marginal gingivitis in 17 students.

News from NRAMP | Technical Club and NSS Unit Activities

The Technical Club of NRAMP in association with the NSS Unit organized a seminar titled “Interpersonal Skills” on 25th March 2025. The session was conducted by JC Aruna S Aithal, National Trainer from JCI India who shared valuable insights into the importance of interpersonal skills in both personal and professional settings. The session emphasized the role of effective communication, active listening, empathy and teamwork in fostering strong relationships. She introduced various practical techniques to improve interpersonal skills, such as active listening exercises, role-playing scenarios and collaborative problem-solving activities. These exercises enabled students to identify their strengths and areas for improvement. The seminar was followed by a Q&A session where queries raised by students were addressed by the resource person.








News from ABSMIDS | An Oral Health Awareness Camp

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, ABSMIDS in association with Justice KS Hegde Dental Clinic, Nitte and Dept. of Psychiatry, KSHEMA conducted an Oral Health Awareness Camp on 20th March 2025 to commemorate the World Oral Health Day 2025. 

Around 80 beneficiaries including the patients visiting the dental Centre and inmates of the Psychiatry Rehabilitation Centre were imparted dental health awareness through exhibition of models and charts pertaining to causes, initiation, progression and consequences of oral diseases. Around 15 inmates were given dental health awareness through recreational activities and demonstration / hands-on session about tooth brushing technique.



















News from KSHEMA | ‘Nitte Accolades - 2025’

‘Nitte Accolades - 2025’ South India Medical & Dental Intercollegiate Sports Tournament was held from 11th to 14th March 2025.

Prof. (Dr) Sumalatha Shetty, Medical Superintendent of KS Hegde Charitable Hospital was the Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony & Col B S Ghivari, Asst. Director (Student Affairs), Nitte DU was the chief guest for the closing ceremony. Prof. (Dr) B Sandeep Rai, Dean, KSHEMA presided over the function.

Dr. Murali Krishna V, Dy. Director (Sports), Dr. Karunakar Shetty, Physical Education Director, PEDs & Sports Advisors of the constituent colleges of Nitte University were present on the occasion. Volleyball, Basketball, Throwball, Badminton, Lawn Tennis and Table Tennis events were conducted.

Students from all over the State participated in the events.

News from NUINS | 13th NITTE ACCOLADES

KS Hegde Medical Academy organized the South India Medical & Dental Intercollegiate Sports Tournament from 11th to 14th March 2025 at the BC Alva Indoor Stadium, Medical Sciences Complex, Deralakatte. The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Physical Education Directors of various constituent colleges.

NUINS emerged as the Champion in the women's category, securing the first prize. Ms. Hemalatha, PED, NUINS was awarded ‘Player of the Tournament’ for her outstanding performance. The winners were honored with trophies, medals, and certificates during the closing ceremony.






News from KSHEMA | Advanced NRP Provider Course

The Department of Paediatrics, KSHEMA under the aegis of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics and National Neonatology Forum organised an Advanced NRP Provider Course at NU-MEDISIM on 25th February 2025.

Prof. (Dr) Leslie Lewis, HoD, Paediatrics, KMC Manipal was the lead instructor. He was assisted by Dr Mithun H K, Assoc. Professor, Paediatrics, Yenepoya Medical College, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Asst. Professor, Paediatrics, KMC Manipal, Dr Rahul Illaparambath, Neonatologist, IQRAA International Hospital & Research Centre, Kozhikode, Kerala. Dr Mithun H K also served as the course coordinator.

Dr Niharika Shetty, Asst. Professor, Paediatrics, coordinated the workshop. The program was attended by 25 delegates from various institutions in Dakshina Kannada.



News from KSHEMA | One-day conference “Armoured with alarms, Protected with care”

The Department of Anaesthesia & Operation Theatre Technology organized a one-day conference “Armoured with alarms, Protected with care” on 24th February 2025 at Avishkar, ABSMIDS.

The Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr) M Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte University inaugurated the event. Prof. (Dr) Jayaprakash Shetty, In-Charge Dean, KSHEMA presided over the function. Prof. (Dr) Sripada G Mehandale, HoD, Anaesthesiology & Critical Care, Ms. Prathima, Coordinator, A&OTT and Ms Gayathri S, Organizing secretary were present on the occasion. A total of 364 delegates from various institutions, in and around Karnataka participated in the event.



News from ABSMIDS | ABSMIDS Interns Explore AI in Dentistry at Nitte Incubation Centre

Fifteen interns from AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences participated in the workshop titled “AI in Dentistry,” featuring lectures and a field visit to the Atal Incubation Centre (AIC) at Nitte. Organized by Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of ABSMIDS, the event aimed to expose students to the potential of artificial intelligence in dental practice.

Dr. AP Achar, CEO, AIC Nitte, initiated the program with a lecture on “AIC NITTE Nurturing Innovation and Entrepreneurship,” providing an overview of the incubation center's role.

Dr. Shashank Shetty, Asst. Professor, NMAMIT followed with a presentation on “Applications of AI for Medical Practitioners,” emphasizing practical examples and opportunities in dentistry. An interactive Q&A session concluded the lectures.

A guided tour of the AIC, led by Mr. Puneeth Rai followed and certificates were distributed. Prof. (Dr) Mamatha Shetty and Dr. Upasana Reddy (Coordinators, IIC, ABSMIDS) organized and coordinated all the events planned for the field visit.



News from NUINS | Nitte Inter-Collegiate Athletic Tournament 2025

NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte hosted the Nitte Inter-Collegiate Athletic Tournament 2025 on 20th March 2025 at the BC Alva Complex Athletics Grounds, Nitte. The tournament was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr) Siddharth M. Shetty, Dept. of Orthopedics, KSHEMA. Shri A. Yogeesh Hegde, Director (CM&D) was the Guest of Honor and Dr. Niranjan Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT presided over the event.
 
A total of 16 students from NUINS participated in the tournament. Notable achievements included a Bronze medal in the 4x100-meter relay and a Silver medal in hammer throw, won by Royston from III BSc (N).




News from NUINS | International Women’s Day 2025

The International Women’s Day 2025 was celebrated on 8th March 2025 at the NUINS Learning Centre, Paneer Campus. The event was organized by the Student Innovation Club (SIC) of NUINS and the IIC of Nitte DU.

42 students from the IV Semester BSc (N) and 15 faculty members participated in the event. Ms. Prathima Sherigarthy, SIC Coordinator delivered the welcome address, followed by the presidential address by Dr. Sabitha Nayak, Vice Principal, NUINS, who emphasized the importance of women’s contributions to society.

The Chief Guest, Lt. Col. Meera Pillai, Principal, Sree Gokulam Nursing College, Venjaramoodu, shared her valuable insights and experiences. She was felicitated for her significant contributions to nursing education and research. Dr. Latha, HoD, Medical-Surgical Nursing and Dr. Nalini M., Asst. Dy. CoE shared their memories with Lt. Col. Meera Pillai, who was the former Principal of NUINS.

In the Essay competition titled "Breaking Barriers: Women in Start-ups and Innovation", Ms. Pema Youden, VI Semester BSc (N), won the 1st prize and Ms. Chichano Patton, 1st MSc, received the 2nd prize. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Karma.







News from NUINs | Annual day celebrations, ‘UDAAN 2K25'

Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences celebrated its annual day, ‘UDAAN 2K25’ on 21st March, 2025 at the University Grounds, Paneer Campus. The event was presided over by Mr. Vishal Hegde, Pro-Chancellor (Admn), Nitte University. Smt. KS Bharati, Sr. Consultant & Former Jt. Secretary, INC was the Chief Guest.

Prof. (Dr) Sabitha Nayak, Vice Principal, NUINS welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significance of the Annual Day celebration. Prof. (Dr) Fatima Dsilva, Principal, NUINS presented a comprehensive report on the institute's progress, accomplishments and the achievements of NUINS. The event featured the official release of the college magazine 'DARPAN 2K25', along with a book titled "Professionalism, Professional Values and Ethics, including Bioethics for BSc Nursing", authored by Mr. Veeresh Kademani and Mr. Theja B.C.

Smt. KS Bharati was honored for her remarkable contributions to the nursing profession. Meritorious students were given cultural and academic awards in recognition of their achievements. The Dean's Honour Award was presented to Sr. Jeevitha Lobo, BSc Nursing student and Mr. Rolwyn Rohan Dsilva, GNM student, in recognition of their exceptional leadership skills and outstanding overall performance in their respective academic programs. On this occasion, the MCH Lab was jointly inaugurated by Sri. Vishal Hegde and Smt. KS Bharati. Smt. KS Bharati emphasized the significance of dedication and compassion in nursing practice. This was followed by the presidential address delivered by Mr. Vishal Hegde, who encouraged students to strive for excellence in their academic and professional pursuits.

The event concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Cleeta Anline Pinto followed by a vibrant cultural program.
