ICMR and NITTE University sponsored two day National Conference on “Role of Organic Chemical Intermediates in Cognitive Disorders and Mental Health” organized by the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Deralakatte, Mangalore was inaugurated by Sri. N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor Nitte University, Prof. (Dr.) S. Ramanand Shetty, Vice Chancellor, Nitte University and Prof. (Dr.) B. M. Hegde, former Vice Chancellor, Manipal University on Friday 17th Feb 2017.
Presiding over the function, Sri. N. Vinaya Hegde, the chancellor of Nitte University said that, “Teaching is enhanced when the professors are also involved in research work and motivate the undergraduate and graduate students to develop their enthusiasm for a research career”. Universities have to devote a lot of attention and emphasis to research based education which will be the best strategy to meet the challenges of the 21st century. It is not enough to produce PhD’s and Master’s students but the universities should be involved in applied research collaboration with industry. Dr. Ramanand Shetty said that Research was an integral part of academics and the pharmaceutical Sciences domain has a major and lead role to play in Research and enormously contribute in community healthcare. Dr. B.M Hegde in his Keynote address held the audience in rapt attention to his remarkable oration and provoked the participants to challenge the status quo so that new knowledge is realized and society moves forward.
The Principal, Dr. C. S. Shastry, introduced the Guest of Honour. Dr. Jennifer conducted the proceedings, Dr. Revanasiddappa, organizing secretary, briefed the audience about the theme of the conference, and Mr. Vijay, Co-organising secretary delivered the vote of thanks.
