International Yoga Day at Nitte

“Yoga - the culmination of Indian culture and spirituality should be a way of life rather than a one day celebration. We should practice yoga regularly to counter the chaos around us. It should not be just a day, but a way of life” opined Prof.(Dr.) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice-Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University). He explained  the benefits of yoga and how we need to inculcate yoga practice in our life, during the celebration of International Yoga Day organised by NSS Nitte Wing on 21st June 2018 at 7am.

Prof. (Dr.) Iddya Karunasagar, Sr. Director, International Relations, Nitte (Deemed to be University) who has been practicing yoga for more than 45 years and Mr. Nhehern Acharya, III BPT, Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy, gold medal winner in Artistic Display Yoga Competition for 2 consecutive years (Malaysia & Argentina) organised by the International Yoga Federation were felicitated on this occasion.

The NSS wing of Nitte University organised the International Yoga Day at  K S Hegde Hospital Campus. Dr. Alka Kulkarni in her welcome address gave an overview of the significance of this day and how our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi took an active lead to promote yoga at the international level.


Staff and students attended the program and performed yoga under the guidance of Mrs. Rashmitha, Yoga instructor, NIPT. Dr. P S Prakash, Dean, K S Hegde Medical Academy rendered the Vote of thanks. Heads of the constituent institutions of Nitte University, Dr. Dhanesh, Principal, NIPT; Dr. J P Shetty, Registrar, KSHEMA; Dr Mithra Hegde, Vice Dean, ABSMIDS; Dr. Vinod Aranha, Director, NIA; Mr. Raviraj Head, NICO; NSS Co-ordinator,  Dr. Sumalatha Shetty and NSS Program Officers actively participated in  the function.
