Vanamahotsava - Nitte

“Plant trees for the current generation and take care of them for the next generation” was the message given by the Chief guest, Dr. V. Karikalan, DCF, Mangalore Division. He was addressing the faculty and students of Nitte (Deemed to be University), Paneer Campus, Mangalore on 6th July, 2018 on the occasion of “Vanamahotsava”, a week-long tree planting program conducted in collaboration with the Karnataka Forest Department. The program was conducted by the Nitte University Green Initiative Project (NUGIP).The function also witnessed the inauguration of “Jeevantika” , a herbal garden developed by Nitte Gulabi Shetty Memorial Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (NGSMIPS). Prof. Dr. C.S. Shastry, Principal, NGSMIPS, welcomed the gathering. Prof. Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University), expressed the commitment of Nitte University, towards development of a green campus. The University has planted 400 trees last year and 200 native trees this year. A tree audit of the campus has resulted in GIS tagging of over 1500 trees and 200 medicinal plants on the university campus.“This drive will enable us to develop and sustain healthy campus for progressive academic and research activities conducted on the campus” stated the guest of honour, Dr. U. S. Krishna Nayak, Principal, A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Science. Mr. Shreedhar P, Range Officer, Mr. Ravi Kumar, Dy. Range officer, Ms. Sowmya S, & Mr. Sukumar, Forest guards were present on the occasion. Dr. Smitha Hegde, Member Secretary, NUGIP proposed the Vote of thanks.
