Continuing Dental Education Program Magnification redefined: Microsonics in Endodontics - ABSMIDS

The Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, A. B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences conducted a one day Continuing Dental Education Program – “Magnification Redefined: Microsonics in Endodontics” comprising of two lectures and a hands-on session on 13th August, 2018 at Vimshathi Bhavan.

The program was inaugurated by, Prof. (Dr.) U. S. Krishna Nayak, Principal & Dean, ABSMIDS and Prof. Dr. Mithra N. Hegde, Vice Principal & Head, Department of Conservative Dentistry. The resource persons were Prof. Dr. V. Gopi Krishna, Professor, Saveetha Dental College & Hospital, Chennai and Dr. Gowrish S. Bhat, Reader.

The first lecture was delivered by Dr. Gowrish S. Bhat on the topic- “Treat what you can see – Magnification in Contemporary Dentistry”. Dr. V. Gopi Krishna delivered a lecture on “Magnification Redefined”. The hands- on session in Trimshathi Bhavan was closely mentored and monitored by Prof. Dr. V. Gopi Krishna. The lecture session had 65 participants and hands-on session was conducted for 35 participants from Manipal College of Dental Sciences – Mangaluru; Manipal College of Dental Sciences – Manipal; Yenepoya Dental College; K. V. G. Dental College – Sullia; A. J. Institute of Dental Sciences; Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences, A. B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences and private clinical practitioners.

Mentoring and monitoring the hands-on participants

This lecture cum hands-on demonstration workshop helped the participants enter the world of Micro-sonic Endodontics and focused on understanding the nuances of adapting the microscope to routine Endodontic practice, along with using the scope for every step of conventional Endodontics. The course highlighted on ergonomics in Endodontics, tracing extra canals under magnification along with demonstrations on post removal and instrument retrieval. The participants were provided with Endo Kit from Dentsply Sirona India and their own microscope station courtesy - Sanma Scopes with demo Endomotor and apex locator.
