The NSS unit of NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences organised an Orientation program for the freshers admitted to M.Pharm, B.Pharm, Pharm.D and D.Pharm courses, followed by a guest lecture titled “Your Attitude Decides Your Altitude” on 4th August, 2018 at the Nitte University Auditorium in Paneer campus. Sri Swami NamaNishtha Das, General Manager, ISKCON, Mangalore was the Chief guest & Resource person and Prof. (Dr.) M.S.Moodithaya, Pro Vice Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) was the Guest of Honour.
Ms. Susheela Bhat and Ms. Apoorva Rao led the audience into prayer, invoking the blessings of the Almighty. This was followed by the inauguration of the program by Swamiji along with other dignitaries, by lighting the lamp as a symbolic gesture for an auspicious beginning for the successful & fulfilling career of the new aspirants.
Dr. R. Narayana Charyulu, Vice Principal & Head, Department of Pharmaceutics delivered the welcome address and introduced Swami NamaNishtha Das, the chief guest and the resource person of the program. Dr. Moodithaya in his keynote address appreciated the apt title chosen for the guest lecture and recalled his days as an active NSS student volunteer, which he continued to pursue in various capacities as program officer, Coordinator etc throughout his academic career. He said that inhibition, blame syndrome, waiting for ideal situation, ineptitude were the cause for all our failures and success was a matter of one’s own choice. Developing an insatiable urge to perform and sustaining it throughout, to contribute towards the well being of self & society is the attitude that every youth is expected to don.
Engaging the students in an interactive session with a good mix of short video clips and intelligent posers, Swami NamaNishtha Das said that, while all of us are frantically fascinated to develop our IQ and EQ, we are less aware of a third dimension of quotient, the SQ or Spiritual Quotient. He said that it is vital to orient ourselves to this crucial spiritual dimension, to find solutions to the constant challenges life throws at us.
Dr. Santanu Saha, NSS Program Officer, gave a brief exposure of NSS and urged the students to actively engage in social service activities being organised by the NSS unit throughout the academic year. Mr. Srinivas Hebbar, Asst. Prof., Dept of Pharmaceutics conducted the proceedings. He was actively supported by his colleagues, Mr. Ravi G.S, Dr. Anoop Narayanan and the NSS student volunteers. The program concluded with a Vote of thanks rendered by Mr. Juno Joel, Asst. Prof., Dept of Pharmacy Practice.
