The Department of Child Health Nursing of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences organised a health education program on ‘Breast Feeding’ at Hoohakuvakallu Anganwadi, Balepuni as a part of the World Breast Feeding Week-2018 on 8th August, 2018.
Mrs. Jeevitha Alva, Lecturer, Child Health Nursing Department delivered a talk on the subject. Quoting the World Health Organisation, she said breastfeeding is a newborn’s first vaccine, providing vital antibodies and immunity boost. Putting newborns to the breast within the first hour of life safeguards against newborn deaths.
The program started with a prayer followed by a brief introduction about the importance of breastfeeding by the Anganwadi supervisor Mrs. Savitha.
Mrs. Harsha Thomas, Ms. Samseena explained techniques, positions and importance of exclusive breast feeding and answered related queries.
