The Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, ABSMIDS observed the World Cancer Day on 4th February 2019 under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) US Krishna Nayak, Principal & Dean, AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences and Prof. (Dr.) G Subhas Babu, HoD, Oral Medicine & Radiology.
Teaching staff, post-graduate students of all departments and interns participated in the program. Representatives from Indoco Remedies Ltd, a part of Warren Pharmaceuticals, Mumbai were also present on the occasion. Dr. Ananya Madiyal, Lecturer & Co-ordinator of the program welcomed the gathering. Prof. (Dr.) US Krishna Nayak spoke about the need to know the ill effects of deleterious habits and the need to create an awareness among the public regarding oral cancer. Later, Ms. Irel Martis, Intern spoke about the epidemiology, types and symptoms of oral cancer and recent advances in the Management of Cancer.
Screening of oral cancer patients was then conducted in the Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology. Patients were educated on the effects of adverse habits and the need to maintain good oral health. Preventive measures for oral cancer were initiated for patients with oral lesions.
Indoco Remedies Ltd provided samples of some of their products which were found to be effective and with a promise for further support as and when required.
