International hands-on workshop on molecular techniques using zebrafish model system - NUCSER

A two-day International Workshop on “Essential Zebrafish Techniques - Development and Genetics” was conducted on 29th and 30th November 2018 at NUCSER. This workshop is part of a three-year collaborative project on ‘Investigating the Mechanisms of Genetic Disorders using the zebrafish model system (GEN-ZEMO)’ funded by the Department of Science & Technology, India and Belgian Science Policy (DST-BELSPO) to Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, Dy. Director, NUCSER and Dr. Anne de Paepe, Ghent University, Belgium.

The inauguration of the workshop was held on 29th November 2018 at the Nitte (Deemed to be University), Paneer Campus, Mangalore. Prof. Dr. Harsha Halahalli, Director (Curriculum Development), NitteDU presided over the event and released the training manual. Dr. Patrick Sips, Scientist, Center for Medical Genetics, Ghent University, Belgium was the chief guest.

The prelude to the workshop were scientific talks by two eminent scientists in the field, Prof . Pancharatna Katti, Karnatak University, Dharwad and Dr. Yasmin Khan, Sophia University, Mumbai. More than sixty students (undergraduate/post graduate) and faculty from various institutions across India took part in this workshop. Dr. Sips and Ms. Hanna de Saffel along with Dr. Anirban Chakraborty conducted the various sessions in the workshop.
