International women’s day at NGSMIPS

The Institutional Cell against Sexual Harassment (I-CASH) of NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences organised International Women’s day on 8th March 2019. The women sported purple ribbons on their sleeves.

An elocution competition on the topic “Feminism: Bane or Boon?” was organised for students under the guidance of the I-CASH co-ordinator, Dr. Marina Koland. The panel of judges comprising Dr. Ishwar Bhat, HoD, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Dr. Smitha Hegde, Professo,r NUCSER declared the following winners: Mr. Ruman AK of III B.Pharm bagged the first prize while Ms. Aneeta Maria of VI Pharm.D and Ms.Evita D’Souza of III B.Pharm won the II and III prize respectively. A guest lecture was organized for teaching and non-teaching faculty. Dr. Marina Koland introduced the guest speaker, Dr. Sumalatha R. Shetty, Professor, Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital. Dr. CS Shastry, Principal welcomed the gathering. He appreciated the selfless and persistent efforts a woman devotes for the well being of every member of the family which is truly admirable.

Speaking on the topic, “Women in Today’s World”, Dr. Sumalatha cited inspiring examples of ordinary women who in spite of adverse circumstances made significant contribution to improve the lives of men and women around them. Quoting the motto for this year’s International Women’s Day “Balance for Better”, she urged the need for both men and women to understand, acknowledge and complement each other’s roles and responsibilities to nurture harmonious relationship and a thereby realise a healthy and happy society.
