A National Seminar on “Quality perspectives in Pharmaceutical Industry” was conducted by the IQAC & Department of Pharmaceutics, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences on 23rd February 2019.
The seminar was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest, Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte. Dr. R Narayana Charyulu, Vice- Principal & Head, Department of Pharmaceutics welcomed the gathering. The guest of honour, Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Director (R&D), NitteDU emphasized on the importance of quality of medicines in the healthcare system. Dr. CS Shastry, Principal of the college congratulated the Pharmaceutics department and expressed pleasure for inviting the alumni as resource persons who have risen to key positions in reputed pharmaceutical industries and said this has sent the right message to the present students.
Mr. Umesh Baikunje, Founder & CEO, Baikunje Consultancy, Bengaluru; Mrs. Soumya Jose, Senior Clinical Research Scientist, IQVIA, Benglaluru; Mr. Rendeep Rajendran, Health & Safety specialist, Pharmacovigilance Cell, Accenture Operations, Chennai and Mr. Rakshith Shetty, Senior Research Associate, STEERLife India Pvt. Ltd, Bengaluru were the resource persons.
The lecture sessions started at 10.30 am with a talk on “Quality of people in Pharmaceuticals” by Mr. Umesh Baikunje. He said people in the pharmaceutical system should have the right education, knowledge, training and experience to deliver high quality medicines to the patients. The session was chaired by Dr. Mohamad Gulzar Ahmed, Principal, Yenepoya College of Pharmacy & Research Centre. The second session was delivered by Mrs. Soumya Jose. She elucidated on the basic quality management approach adopted in clinical research and said, the data obtained in clinical research are crucial determinants in further enhancing the efficacy of the medicine and thus achieve improved therapeutic administration. The session was chaired by Dr. CS Shastry, Principal, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The post lunch sessions started with a video conference with Mr. Sumanth Prabhu, Principal Scientist, Novartis Ltd., Hyderabad on “Quality & Innovation in Drug Development”. This was followed by a talk on “Trends in Industrial Pharmacovigilance” by Mr. Rendeep Rajendran. The session was chaired by Dr. Saleemulla Khan, Principal, PA College of Pharmacy. In the final session, Mr. Rakshit Shetty engaged the audience discussing the “Quality by Design” approach adopted in the industry in developing pharmaceutical products. The session was chaired by Dr. K Ishwar Bhat, Professor & Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
200 delegates from pharmacy institutions pan India participated in the event and expressed their satisfaction and shared positive feedback on the topics presented by the resource persons.
