KSHEMA ICRS STEMCON-2019, the 3rd biennial national conference on “Current advances in stem cell-based regenerative and cellular medicine” was inaugurated on 14th December 2019 by Mr. N. Vinaya Hegde, Hon’ble Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) at the new Auditorium, AB Shetty Dental Sciences, Deralakatte.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Vinaya Hegde emphasised the growing prominence of research in medical education and called upon the students and faculty to utilize the opportunities in stem cell applications for treating various diseases and disorders. He further stressed on the need of clinical research on stem cells for their efficient usage in human medicine.
Prof. (Dr.) Mats Brittberg, renowned Orthoapaedic Surgeon from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden was the Chief Guest. He explained the role of stem cells in personalised medicine and later released the conference proceedings.
Prof. (Dr.) B. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice-Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) presided over the function. Prof. Bhandary highlighted the continued support of Nitte University in emerging research areas like stem cells in medicine and the genuine needs of the healthcare industry.
The other resource persons from abroad - Prof. (Dr.) A. Ananthram Shetty, Chair of Orthopaedics & Director of Research, Canterbury Christchurch University, Kent, UK, and Prof. (Dr.) Seok Jung Kim, Director of Cell Therapy Centre and Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Catholic University of Korea, Seoul, Republic of Korea were the guests of honour. Dr. Yogeesh D Kamat was the Observer from Karnataka Medical Council. Prof. (Dr.) M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Prof. MS Moodithaya, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Alka Kulkarni, Registrar, Nitte (Deemed to be University) were the Guests of Honour.
Prof. P. S. Prakash, Dean, KSHEMA; Prof. U. S. Krishna Nayak, Dean, ABSMIDS; Prof. A. M. Mirajkar and Prof. K. Jayaprakash Shetty, Vice-Deans of KSHEMA were present. Dr. A. Veena Shetty delivered the welcome address and Dr. B. Mohana Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.Dr. M. Siddharth Shetty compeered the programme.
