A two-day workshop on “Fundamentals of Clinical Research” organized by the Department of Pharmacy Practice, NGSMIPS was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Dhanesh Kumar, Principal, Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy, Mangaluru.
The workshop was completely interactive with sufficient demonstration on the concerned topics on IRB-reports, Recruitment, Screening, Randomization, Informed consent procedure, Case report forms, ADR reporting and Case studies. This, focused small group workshop was limited to 40 participants. Dr. Uday Venkat Mateti, Organizing Secretary gave a brief introduction about the need and purpose of the workshop as an introductory note. Prof. (Dr.) C.S. Shastry, Principal, NGSMIPS, welcomed the gathering and introduced the speakers: Dr. Girish Thunga P, Asst. Professor-Selection Grade, Dept. of Pharmacy Practice, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, MAHE, Manipal and Ms. Vijayalaxmi K, Senior Clinical Trial Coordinator, Manipal Centre for Clinical Research, MAHE, Manipal. He also highlighted the importance of the workshop. Presiding over the function, Prof. (Dr.) Dhanesh Kumar, Principal, Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy enlightened the importance of Clinical Research and its implications on the human health. Dr. Juno J Joel, HoD, Pharmacy Practice delivered the vote of thanks.
During the two-day workshop, three sessions were conducted on the theme of “Fundamentals of Clinical Research”.
First Session on 11th December 2019 (Day 1) : Dr. Girish Thunga P started the session with Ethics in Clinical Research Practice and provided hands-on training with case studies on the recruitment, screening, randomization and ADR reporting.
Second Session on 11th December 2019 (Day 1) : Ms. Vijayalaxmi K provided hands-on training with case studies on IRB-reports, Informed consent procedure and Electronic Case report forms (e-CRF).
Third Session on 12th December 2019 (Day 2) : Ms. Athira, Research Scholar, Dept. of Pharmacy Practice, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, MAHE, Manipal discussed case studies and ethical problems in clinical research.
The interactive and hands-on training sessions allowed the students, research scholars and faculty members to broaden their interest and knowledge in different aspects of “Clinical Research”.
Mr. Nandakumar, Asst. Professor collected the workshop Feedback from delegates at the end of the three sessions. Dr. Treesa P Varghese, Mr. Bharath Raj, Dr. Vinay and Dr. Sharad, Asst Professors, Dept. of Pharmacy Practice ably supported in the smooth conduct of the workshop.
