The Nitte Deemed to be University in association with the District Administration and KSPCB conducted a one-day awareness program on ‘Bio-Medical Waste Management - Present Status and Future directions’ for medical, nursing and biomedical professionals on 24th January, 2020 in the New Auditorium, ABSMIDS, Deralakatte.
The program was inaugurated by Smt. Sindhu B. Rupesh, Deputy Commissioner, DK. Dr. M. Ramakrishna Rao, District Health Officer, DK was the Guest of Honour. Prof. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor, Nitte DU presided over the function. Sri K. Keerthi Kumar, Environmental Officer, KSPCB, Mangalore introduced the theme of the awareness program to the gathering. He stressed on the need for disposal of biomedical waste in Mangalore city as per the stipulated regulations. Prof. Dr. Srinikethan G, Director, Technical Research welcomed the participants. Prof. Dr. Smitha Hegde, proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Sumita Chowta was the master of ceremony. Dr. Shalini Pradeep, Professor, Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore and Major Dr. Shivakumar Hiremath, Medical Superintendent, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital were the resource persons. Dr. H. Lakshmikantha, Environmental Officer, KSPCB, Karwar, spoke on BMW rules 2016, Management & Handling.
A panel discussion followed, with active participation of the audience on clarifications of certain regulations regarding medical waste disposals. The program was attended by over 500 registered participants from over 50 medical institutions.
