To prepare the young minds intellectually, socially, physically and technologically, teachers need to be abreast of the latest techniques and methodology of teaching. With this aim in mind, “Abhimanch”, a workshop for the teachers on the implementation of Theatre in Education was organized for a week from 22nd to 27th May 2023. The workshop was inaugurated by Vidhushi Manasi Sudheer, a renowned multifaceted dancer and cine actress. She said that TIE (Theatre in Education) fulfills all types of learning and enhances the development process of children.
Resource person Ms. Geetha MS, Senior Artist, Rangayana, Mysore spoke at length about how theatre can transform the life of an individual and discussed the various aspects associated with theatre like movement of the body, voice modulation, gestures & mimicking and urged the teachers to shed all their hesitation.
Her team comprising of Mr. Purushottam, retired drawing teacher taught classroom & stage decoration; Mr. Aravind Kudla taught face mask making & costume making using cotton sarees and Mr. Vidhu Uchil taught the main elements of theatre.
Ms. Abhilasha, Principal, SMS English Medium School along with her team Mr. Sujayeendra Hande, Ms. Kavya Hande and Ms. Kavya Prabhu demonstrated the techniques of theatre.
Prime attraction of the workshop was “Raga Saraga” played by the participants using waste plastic bottles, sticks, coconut shells, plates & spoons, glasses and stones.
60 teachers from different schools of Mangalore and Udupi participated in this workshop.
