As a part of Industry-Academia initiatives, an event on “Act Now to be Sustainable - ways & means to reduce carbon emission as a scientist” was jointly organized by NUCSER and Eppendorf India Pvt. Ltd. on 9th October 2023.
Inaugurating the program, Prof. Dr. Praveen Kumar Shetty, Director (R&D), Nitte University emphasized on the judicious utilization of laboratory resources & consumables, reflecting on the transition from traditional glass equipment to the modern use of plastic.
Mr. Bharath, Sr. Manager, Eppendorf India Pvt. Ltd. shared insights into Eppendorf's green initiatives, particularly the production of centrifuge tubes from vegetable oils, contributing to a remarkable 40% increase in sustainability. Presiding over the event, Prof. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER highlighted the significance of sustainability and its practical implementation, especially in research institutes like NUCSER.
Following the formal proceedings, the event continued with a roadshow on Eppendorf’s sustainable practices. A Quiz and Pipette Competition provided an interactive platform for the students to further explore the principles of sustainability in their field.
Ms. Rochelle Deanne Tauro & Ms. Anagha Sanjay won the awards for the Quiz competition while, Ms. Eshani & Ms. Naja Kumummai were the winners of the Pipette competition. Prof. Dr. Smitha Hegde, Dy. Director welcomed the gathering. Dr. Praveen Rai, Assoc. Professor, NUCSER proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Varsha P Shetty hosted the event.
