News from MRSMEMHS | Gandhi Jayanti

Dr. MRSM School celebrated Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October 2024 with great enthusiasm and reverence to honour the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. The event aimed to instil Gandhian values in students, reminding them of the importance of truth, non-violence and simplicity in their daily lives. The day was filled with various activities that paid homage to Gandhi’s life and his contribution to India’s freedom struggle.

The celebrations began with a prayer followed by floral tribute to the two iconic figures, Mahatma Gandhi and Sri Lal Bahadur Shastri by the President of PTA, Mr Pushparaj Chowta and the Principal, Mrs Shreelatha Rao.

Vallari of Class IX read out the values, students could imbibe from the two great personalities. Sadhvi of Class IX recalled an event from Gandhiji's life which highlights his simple living and self reliance. Adithya J Moily of Class X spoke on non-violent movements led by Gandhiji. Students also watched a short documentary on the same. The program continued with bhajans including the soulful recitation of Gandhi’s favorite devotional hymn, “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram,” followed by a moment of silence to reflect on his teachings.

Mr Pushparaj Chowta, in his address urged students to keep their surroundings clean and to re-use items to avoid junk. The Principal emphasised Gandhi’s ideals of peace, non-violence & honesty, and advised students to imbibe these values.

In alignment with Gandhi’s belief in cleanliness, students along with teachers, participated in ‘Shramadhan', cleaning the school premises for half an hour.
