News from JKSHIM | Dr. N K Thingalaya Memorial Lecture

'Dr. N K Thingalaya Memorial Lecture' was organised by the Institute after the inauguration of the N K Thingalaya Block. Shri Sekhar Rao, Executive Director, Karnataka Bank delivered the Dr. N K Thingalaya Memorial Lecture on the theme 'Career Opportunities in Banking Sector.' He highlighted the changes that have been happening in the banking sector and mentioned that banks are more integrated in their operations as a result of which there are ample opportunities for qualified youths to join the banking sector.

The Founding Director of the Institute and current Vice-Chancellor of Nitte University, Prof. Dr. M S Moodithaya, stated that with the support and guidance of the late Dr. N K Thingalaya and the President, Sri N. Vinaya Hegde, he was able to establish the Institute at Nitte . He said that Dr. Thingalaya, an authority on rural banking and a policy economist, actively participated in the Institute’s activities, mentoring faculty and students while fostering a research culture. He played a key role in securing and successfully completing world-class consultancy projects.

Dr. Thingalaya's classmate at the University of Bombay, Dr. N S Shetty, said that Late Dr N K Thingalaya was a passionate researcher and was a role model to all. He was a man of 'high thinking and simple living'. Dr Thingalaya had authored nine books on various facets of banking in India and contributed research articles to reputed journals. Late Dr. N K Thingalaya's books were exhibited for the benefit of all on the occasion.
