NSAM, NITTE SCHOOL PARTICIPATED IN A UNIQUE CHALLENGE - DESIGN FOR CHANGE:
This is a global movement designed to give young people an
opportunity to express their own ideas for a better world and put them
into action. Adults and children alike learn through the Design For
Change Challenge that “ I Can” are the two most powerful words a person can believe in. This is spurred by Gandhiji’s motto – Be The Change You Want To See.
Students the world over, who have accepted the - I Can mantra are changing the bad and making it good with the power of their ideas, by using a SIMPLE FOUR STEP Design-Thinking process:
1.FEEL anything that bothers them
2.IMAGINE a change that they want to bring to that situation,
3.DO the act of change and
4.SHARE their story of change with others to inspire them.
With
its inspirational roots at the Riverside School, Ahmedabad, India, this
global movement has inspired thousands of young people in 33 countries,
their teachers and parents to celebrate the fact that they matter, that
change is possible and that they can lead and inspire that change.
Children
of all ages for the past two years are dreaming up and leading
brilliant ideas all over the world, from challenging old age
superstitions in rural communities to cleaning up cities, from earning
their money to finance school computers to tackling loneliness. Students
are proving that they have what it takes to be able to ‘design’ a
future that is desired.
There
is no capital investment, central management or a business plan. It is
fuelled by human capital alone - passion, belief and a compelling sense
of purpose.
Our
students enrolled for this Challenge last year(2012), and their story
was one amongst the 100 shortlisted in India. They were honoured with a
box full of good books. They were invited for the 2 days Children’s
Conference at the National Institute of Design in Ahemedabad on 28th and 29th September, 2013.
Sudeep
B, Amulya Rao of class VIII and Tushar Kunder and Manish Salian of
Class X, along with their teacher Seema Joishy attended the Childrens’
Conference of spotlighting change stories, inspiring others and
celebrating change. It was a wonderful experience for our participants,
who realized – There are so many problems in the world. So what? Can we
be the solution. They felt, Yes, if we trust ourselves, we can do
anything. I was told all the children stood like superheroes with their
stories of change and proved to themselves and society that every child CAN.
