The Nitte-Gajria Specialty Hospital that has come up at Sheshadrinagar on Tellar Road in Karkala was inaugurated on January 4, Saturday by former Karnataka Lokayukta and former Supreme Court judge Justice N Santosh Hegde. The 70 bed hospital has been constructed at a cost of Rs 12 crore by the Nitte University in association with the Gajria Family Foundation of NRI entrepreneur Lalchand Gajria of Bahrain. In his inaugural address, Justice Santosh Hegde said the rural people were deprived of better medical facilities mainly because doctors hesitate to offer services in rural areas. Pointing out that the government alone cannot ensure that all sections of the society get good education as well as health care facilities, Justice Hegde said various organisations are coming forward at present in this direction.





Lalchand Gajria, President of Gajria Family Foundation who also spoke said social service was the main objective of his Trust which aims to render services in the healthcare sector through this hospital. Dr N Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University in his address said man should not be completely money oriented in life but should consider social service too a part of his life. He said the new hospital has been set up in best interests of people of the area and added all modern facilities are available here at an affordable cost. K Jayaram Prabhu, Managing Trustee of Sri Venkatramana Temple of Karkala presided over the function. Ranjith Gajria, Shyam Gajria, Dr NR Shetty, former VC of Bangalore University, Dr Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor of Nitte University, Vishal Hegde, Trustee of Nitte Education Trust, Dr Rajashekhar Manjunath, Narasimha Puranik, Venkatesh Puranik and others were present.
