The Department of Psychiatry of K.S. Hegde Medical Academy, Deralakatte, a constituent unit of Nitte University is observed May 24th as “WORLD SCHIZPHRENIA DAY” in the department at Justice K.S Hegde Charitable Hospital.
The programme started with prayer by Dr. Athmika Bhat. Dr. Satheesh Rao, Prof. & Head , Department of Psychiatry, KSHEMA welcomed the audience and highlighted on the importance of observing the “WORLD SCHIZOPHRENIA DAY”.Dr. L.N. Samaga, Professor , Department of Medicine , K.S Hegde Medical Academy was the chief guest and inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp and spoke on how to manage obesity. Dr. Ravichandra Karkala, Asst. Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Yenepoya Medical College was the guest of honor and he gave a talk on Schizophrenia and explained how to treat and manage the disease. Dr. Shrinivasa Bhat, Professor, Department of Psychiatry, KSHEMA gave a few words on the same topic and he shared some experience with the patients and their families.
Some of the patients who were re-habilitated shared their experience about the illness and its management. The students of M.Sc. Psychology from St Agnes college performed a Role Play on the theme Schizophrenia as a illness and its management. We conducted games and competition for the patients in the ward and the prize distribution for same for the winners and participants were 0distributed on the day.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs . Agnita Aiman , Spychiatric Social Worker , Dept. of Psychiatry, KSHEMA. Around 80 patients and their families were benefited by this programme.
