National Service Scheme of KSHEMA conducted a Health Awareness Programme on World AIDS Day 2016 on 1st December at Government High School, Hejamadi Kodi. In collaboration with Nitte Meenakshi Hegde Memorial Health Centre, Hejamadi Kodi and Department of Community Medicine, we targeted students of aged 13 to 16 years to participate in this programme.
With this year’s theme ‘Hands Up For #HIVprevention’, we strengthened our efforts to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and encouraged these young students to express their views. There were about 90 students and 10 teachers who were actively involved. After lighting the inaugural lamp and welcome speech, Athmika was invited to present a talk on HIV/AIDS. She highlighted the facts about HIV/AIDS, modes of transmission, clinical features, staging, preventions, treatment and our role in reduction of stigma and discrimination. This followed by an interactive Q&A session facilitated by Dr. Nanjesh, Dr. Rahul Hegde and Mr. Santosh.
