The department of Biotechnology Engineering organized a 3 day National Level Workshop on ‘Optimization Techniques’ for faculty and researchers during 23rd - 25th January 2017. This workshop was sponsored by Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (Phase 2). The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. S. Raja, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, MIT, Manipal. The inaugural programme was presided over by the Vice Principal & Dean (Academics) Dr. I. Ramesh Mithanthaya. He was of the opinion that such workshop for faculty and researchers in the present scenario is need of the hour. He further added that the main motto of TEQIP funding is to improve the research quality and requested all the participants to obtain the best out of this workshop. The organizing chairman of the workshop, Head of Biotechnology Engineering Department, Dr. C. Vaman Rao gave brief details about the workshop and requested all participants to actively participate in the 3 day hands on sessions.
The chief resource person of the workshop Dr. S. Raja, delivered a lecture on Concept of Experimental design & its significance in Research. He also delivered lectures on various experimental design methods and their analysis with hands on sessions using the software Minitab and Design Expert over 3 days. He was accompanied by Mr. Venkatesh Kamath, Assistant Professor, Biotechnology Engineering Department, NMAMIT, for hands on sessions. Mr. Kamath also delivered lectures on the topics ‘Data analysis using statistical methods’ and ‘Biodiesel production – case study’ on 23rd and 25th of January. On 25th of January, a session on ‘Enzyme production by SmF– case study’ by Dr. V. Ramesh, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, MIT, Manipal and a session on ‘Enzyme production by SSF– case study’ by Ms. Subbalaxmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, MIT, Manipal were conducted. About 25 faculty and researchers from various Institutions participated in this workshop. The workshop was coordinated by Mr. Venkatesh Kamath and Mr. Vinayaka B. Shet, Assistant Professors, Biotechnology Engineering Department, NMAMIT.
