One day ToT program on ‘Role of teachers in curbing drug menace’ - KSHEMA

The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology conducted a one day ToT program on 6th February, 2018 on ‘Role of teachers in curbing drug menace’. More than 200 Pre University college teachers from all over DK district participated in the program.

The program began with a small skit on drug abuse by the students, followed by a formal inauguration. The welcome speech was delivered by Dr. P.S Prakash, Dean, KSHEMA. Mr. Suresh T.R, IPS Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru was the Chief guest and Mr. B.R Ravikanthe Gowda, IPS, Superintendent of Police was the Guest of honour. Prof. Dr. Shantaram Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte Deemed to be University, presided over the function. The four speakers; DCP Mrs. Uma Prashanth mainly dealt with the law enforcing aspects of drug abuse, Dr. Mahabalesh Shetty, Professor & Head, Dept. of Forensic Medicine spoke on the epidemiological aspects of the menace of drugs; Dr. Santosh Prabhu, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Psychiatry highlighted the psychiatric aspects of drug abuse and Dr. Nanjesh Kumar, Assoc. Professor, Dept. of Community Medicine dealt on the socio psychological management of students with drug abuse.

This was followed by a panel discussion wherein many relevant issues were raised and discussed. The program was co-ordinated by Dr. Suraj Shetty, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Forensic Medicine.

The feedback given by the participants at the end of the program was positive and overwhelming. The participants also visited and appreciated the Forensic Medicine Museum.
