The Department of Psychiatry, K.S Hegde Medical Academy organised the Schizophrenia Family Meet to commemorate “ World Schizophrenia Day” with the theme “Do what you can do” on 29th June, 2018.
A good number of patients who are currently undergoing treatment attended the meet along with their families.
The program began with a prayer by Dr. Garima and Ms. Archana. Dr. Sathish Rao, HoD welcomed the gathering and spoke on Schizophrenia and the stress that the patient's family and care givers go through.
Major Dr. Shivakumar Hiremath, Medical Superintendent presided over the program and explained the services provided by the Department. Dr. Varuni, Consultant Psychiatrist, Kasargod who was the Chief guest spoke on the topic "Care givers burden and how to overcome it with several provisions and opportunities for healthy patient care”.
Dr. Prabhath, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Psychiatry spoke of the rehabilitation facilities available, to lessen the burden associated with care giving.
Ms. Shirley Martin Lucas, Nursing Superintendent was also present. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Gunasagari Rao, Professor, Dept. of Psychiatry, K.S.Hegde Hospital.
This was followed by sharing of experiences by patients and care givers, which was led by Dr. Gunasagari Rao and Mrs. Agneita Aiman.
The program was compered by Ms. Sulochana, T.C.C. Co-ordinator and co-ordinated by Mrs. Agneita Aiman, Lecturer, Dept. of Psychiatry.
