A guest lecture on “Pharmacovigilance and VigiFlow” was organised by the Dept. of Pharmacy Practice, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Mangalore on 25th September, 2018 on the occasion of the World Pharmacist Day. Dr. Sharath Kumar, Asst. Professor, AJ Institute of Medical Sciences, Mangalore was the guest speaker.
The Principal, Dr. C.S. Shastry delivered the welcome address. Introducing the speaker, Dr. Shastry said that in a patient centric wellness-oriented healthcare delivery system, patient safety is of paramount importance and hence Pharmacovigilance becomes a vital discipline of clinical science. In order to prevent harm to patients and thus improve public health, mechanisms for evaluating and monitoring the safety of medicines in clinical use are vital, which the discipline of pharmacovigilance addresses authoritatively.
The resource person, Dr. Sharath Kumar engaged the students in lucid and informative session. He explained the importance of reporting an adverse drug reaction in the hospital setting and also briefed about the VigiFlow software and how it is being used in Indian pharma-industry. At the end of the talk, he held an interactive session where he gave a case scenario and taught the gathering on how to fill an ADR form. Dr. Juno. J. Joel, Asst.
