The newly constructed extension block of AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences was inaugurated on 12th January 2019.
ABSMIDS has been consistently ranked among the top five dental colleges in the country. This prestigious institution has also been catering to the oral health needs of the population of Dakshina Kannada and neighboring districts including the State of Kerala, since 1985.
To cater to the increased demand for oral healthcare and dental education, the college has added a new block of 50000 sq.ft to the already existing 120000 sq.ft of built-up area (excluding the Basic Sciences Departments). The new blockhouses among others, a fully air-conditioned advanced Oral Implantology Department; an integrated comprehensive Speciality Dental Section; Pedodontics & Pediatric Dentistry Department including a specially earmarked section to cater to the needs of the special child; Department of Community Dentistry and Department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology including Oral Biochemistry & Haematology. All the Departments are equipped with the most modern and state of the art equipment and materials. The building also houses a contemporary fully air-conditioned Auditorium and Dining Hall. Separate vegetarian and non-vegetarian cafeterias are located on the ground and first floor of the building.
The inaugural ceremony of the new block began with various poojas on the evening of Friday, 11th January 2019 in the august presence of Sri N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte DU. It was formally inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) M Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte DU on 12th January 2019 at 10 a m.
Prof. (Dr.) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice-Chancellor, Nitte DU; Prof. Dr. Alka Kulkarni, Registrar ; Prof. (Dr.) US. Krishna Nayak, Principal & Dean, ABSMIDS; Principals of various constituent colleges and all the teaching, non-teaching staff & students of ABSMIDS graced this land mark occasion.
