Burns Critical Care Unit commissioned in Justice K.S.Hegde Charitable Hospital - Press release

The burns unit was inaugurated at Justice K. S. Hegde Charitable Hospital by Sri N.V. Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte (deemed to be University ) in the presence of Prochancellors, Prof (Dr.) M. Shantharam Shetty and Shri Vishal Hegde, Vice – Chancellor Prof (Dr.) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. M.S.Moodithaya, Registrar Prof. Alkha Kulakarni and Dean, Prof (Dr) P.S.Prakash

Speaking on the occasion the medical superintendent Major (Dr) Shivakumar Hiremath recalled that many of patients who had suffered from burns were unable to get proper treatment due to the gaps in the healthcare system and the outcomes were poor. With the commissioning of this new self contained burns unit at Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital which has the state of the art ICU, operation theatre and instruments coupled with the skill of expert doctors and nurses, the best possible care aimed at positive treatment outcomes for burn injury patients is now made available in this region. He added that a first of its kind comprehensive tissue bank facility capable of providing tissues like skin and amnion much required for the treatment of burns, is on the anvil and will be commissioned very soon.

The burns unit will be managed by skilled and qualified staff of plastic surgery department comprising of Dr. Nikhil S. Shetty and Dr. Karthik Vishwanath, department of general surgery headed by Prof. Rajashekar Mohan supported by the critical care and anesthesiology team headed by Prof (Dr) Sripad Mehandale along with other specialty and superspeciality departments.
