Nitte (Deemed to be University) accorded a grand welcome to a 16-member student delegation from two North Eastern States namely Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The teams will be the guests of the Nitte (Deemed to be University) from 26 January to 2 February 2019 as a part of the Nitte-Namaste Solidarity Program (NNSP), a joint-initiative of Indian National Fellowship Centre (INFC), founded by His Excellency, Shri P.B. Acharya, Governor of Nagaland and Nitte (Deemed to be University). During their stay, the visiting team will attend career counseling sessions, workshops on entrepreneurship and employability and visit to artisan and heritage villages to understand the lifestyle and practices of traditional Karnataka households. They will be hosted by various local families for meals and informal interactions. In addition, they will have sightseeing trips to tourist places in and around Mangalore. The formal orientation program was held on 28th January 2019 in the University Enclave, Derlakatte. Speaking on the occasion, Shri N. V. Hegde, Honorable Chancellor of Nitte University, emphasized on the need for such initiatives to bring about an emotional integration with the NE states of India. He also stressed on the point that the misconception that prevails in the minds of the people from North East India about being neglected and alienated must be removed and such programs need to be organized by Educational Institutions across the country to bring about the close connectivity with them. ProChancellor Dr. Shantharam Shetty, Vice Chancellor Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. M. S. Moodithaya, Registrar, Dr Alka Kulkarni, Director R&D, Dr Indrani Karunasagar, the coordinator of the NAMASTE Centre, Dr. Anirban Chakraborty and the NSS coordinator Dr Sumalatha Shetty were present.
