National Science Day 2019 - NUCSER

NitteDU celebrated the National Science Day with great fervor on 28th February 2019. On this very day in 1928, Sir C V Raman discovered the Raman Effect for which he was honored with the Noble Prize in 1930. In honor of this discovery and as a mark of tribute to Sir C V Raman, February 28th is marked as National Science Day in India. The theme for this year’s National Science Day is - Science for People and People for Science.

NitteDU has been celebrating the National Science Day for the last three years. Every year the University recognizes the contribution of scientists who have made a mark in their chosen fields and felicitates them at a glittering function organized in the University. In addition, several events are conducted for the staff and students of the constituent colleges of NitteDU to recognize and reward those involved in quality research and development.

This year, NitteDU bestowed recognition on Prof. (Dr.) Georgi Abraham, Head, Institute of Kidney Diseases, Urology & Organ Transplantation, Madras Medical Mission, Chennai for his yeomen service and research contributions in the area of General Medicine and Nephrology. Prof Dr. Georgi Abraham delivered The National Science Day Oration on “Chronic Kidney Diseases in India - Challenges“ at the Seminar Hall of Justice K S Hegde Hospital, which was preceded by a formal function.

Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Director (R & D), NitteDU, and Director, NUCSER welcomed the gathering and highlighted the need for organizing such activities in universities to develop and promote scientific and research temperament in students. Dr. Iddya Karunasagar, Sr. Director (International Relations), NitteDU, spoke about the significance of the National Science Day. Dr. Alka Kulkarni, Registrar appraised the audience about the initiatives taken by the University for promotion of research in NitteDU. She also declared and distributed the faculty-wise Research Awards to participants of the Research Convention held earlier in the day. More than 70 independent research projects were showcased in the form of posters.

Prof. (Dr.) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice-Chancellor, NitteDU and Dr P.S. Prakash, Dean, KSHEMA along with other dignitaries felicitated Dr. Georgi Abraham and distributed the best poster awards to the students. In his presidential remark, the Vice Chancellor of the University emphasized on the infrastructure and resources provided for quality research in the University and urged the clinicians to become more proactive and involved, in carrying out research that benefit one and all. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, Dy. Director, NUCSER proposed the vote of thanks. Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research (NUCSER) and K.S. Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) jointly organized the events of the day.
