The Department of Psychiatry conducted a Substance Abuse Training Workshop for the faculty of colleges under Nitte Deemed to be University. The Workshop wa held on 15th February 2019 at the Medical Education Unit Hall, KSHEMA.
Dr. Shishir Kumar, Assistant Professor; Dr. Gunasagari Rao, Professor, Psychiatric Social Work and Mrs. Mamatha Bhandary, Student Counsellor were the resource persons. They delivered sessions on the following topics:

- Substance abuse among students
- Understanding substance abuse
- Different kinds of substance abuse prevalent among students.
- How to motivate students to take professional help for substance abuse management, recovery and sobriety.
- How to identify substance abuse among students and refer them for treatment and intervention.
- How to motivate and help students to have healthy life choices.
- How to incorporate drug prevention activities wherever possible.
