The Automotive Learning Factory (ALF) under the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte was inaugurated on 1st April 2019 by Shri. N. Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) and President , Nitte Education Trust. In his inaugural speech, Mr. Hegde expressed his desire for more collaboration between institute and industry such that students can get better industry exposure which will lead to producing industry-ready engineers during the time of their graduation. The main motive of this Learning Factory is to provide hands-on training and skill development to the students such as project-based learning in order to meet the requirements of outcome-based education and current trends in Automotive Engineering. Currently, this factory houses an operational Ashok Leyland chassis (222 Viking BS4 - Selective Catalytic Reactor (SCR)) and a variety of automotive components. Another attractive feature is a BMW Twin Power Turbo Engine with 8 Speed Steptronic transmission sponsored by BMW India under BMW SkillNxt programme for student training purpose.
Mr. Vishal Hegde, Pro-Chancellor, NitteDU; Dr. MS Moodithaya, Pro Vice-Chancellor, NitteDU; Mr. Rajendra, Director, Finance & Planning; Mr. Harikrishna Bhat, Former President, HCL Ltd, Japan; Dr. Niranjan Chiplunkar, Principal; Vice Principals Dr. Mithanthaya and Dr. Shrinivasa Rao BR; Dr. Parameswaran, Director, Institute Industry Interaction and Professors of the department were present during this ceremony.
Dr. Shashikantha Karinka, HoD, Mechanical Engineering welcomed the gathering, Mr. Grynal D’Mello, Asst. Professor & Co-ordinator of ALF, presented an overview about the working of the factory and its usefulness to the students of NMAMIT and neighbouring institutions. Mrs. Rashmi P Shetty compered the program and Mr. Krishnaprasad proposed the vote of thanks.
As part of Active Learning, a Mini Project Exhibition was also organised during this occasion where students fabricated and presented the working models of Automobile subsystems.
