The Department of Psychiatry, KS Hegde Medical Academy in association with Akhila Karnataka Jana Jagruthi Vedike (AKJJV), a constituent organisation of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Program (SKDRP) organised a two-day workshop on “Community Interventions in Substance Use Disorders with special focus on Alcohol Use Disorders” on 6th and 7th March 2019.
The Department of Psychiatry, has worked closely with AKJJV since its inception, in catering to the mental health needs of patients with alcohol abuse disorders. The workshop was attended by Counsellors from local rehabilitation centres, camp officers and nursing staff of AKJJV.
Prof Dr M.S Moodithaya, Pro Vice-Chancellor, inaugurated the workshop and urged participants to transform themselves into competent catalysts of change, by helping people with substance use disorders live an addiction free life.
Mr Vivek Vincent Pais, Director, Akhila Karnataka Jana Jagruthi Vedike acknowledged the close collaboration of the Vedike with the Department of Psychiatry and the support extended by Mr N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) in delivering effective services to people with alcohol-related problems.
Prof. (Dr) Satheesh Rao, HoD, Psychiatry welcomed the guests and said the workshop intends to train participants in an evidence-based, bio-psychosocial model of evaluation and treatment of people with substance use disorders in the community.
Ms Suman Pinto, Counsellor, Department of Psychiatry was the Master of Ceremonies.
