Symposium on ‘Updates in the new MBBS curriculum - CBME and its future Challenges’ - Nitte

IQAC - Nitte (Deemed to be University) and Medical Education Unit - K S Hegde Medical Academy conducted a symposium on ‘Updates in the new MBBS curriculum - CBME and its future Challenges’ on 16th April 2019 at Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Mangaluru. Prof Dr Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) inaugurated the program.

He stressed the importance of the new curriculum and suggested that the faculty needs to be be ready to face the challenges of preparing and implementing it. Prof Dr Prakash P S, Dean, KSHEMA, Prof Dr Amrith Mirajkar and Prof Dr Jayaprakash Shetty, Vice Deans, KSHEMA and Dr Shivakumar Hiremath, Medical Superintendent were present. Dr Pragna Rao, Dean, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal; Dr Pretesh Rohan Kiran, Assoc. Professor, Community Medicine & Medical Education, St Johns Medical College, Bengaluru; Dr Rashmi Jain, Assoc.Professor, Ophthalmology, Yenepoya Medical College, Mangaluru; Dr Sharada Rai, Head, Dept of Pathology, Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru, Dr Shivashankara AR, Assoc. Professor, Biochemistry, Fr Muller Medical College, Mangaluru and Dr Shrinivas Bhat, Professor, Psychiatry, K S Hegde Medical Academy, Mangaluru were the resource persons.

Topics to be introduced in the new curriculum like competency-based medical education, alignment and integration, foundation course, skill development, electives, early clinical exposure, assessment issues, GMR 2019 and the role of faculty development were discussed. Dr Harsha HN, Co-ordinator, IQAC, welcomed the gathering and Dr Kishan Prasad, Co-ordinator, MEU-KSHEMA proposed the vote of thanks. Around 150 faculty members from all over Karnataka participated in the program.
