In the election held for the state management committee by the Liberal Party of Australia led by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Shilpa Hegde, who is a Kannadiga from Perdoor in the district has been elected. The state committee has the power to take important decisions.

Shilpa happens to be the daughter of Mohandas Hegde and Shashikala Hegde from Perdoor. She was born and brought up at Perdoor.

She has been ranked second among the ten most popular politicians of Australia. In the federal election of 2013, she had fought as a candidate of the Liberal Party from Wills constituency. Shilpa is actively involved with the Liberal Party of Australia with the support of her husband, Dayanand Hegde, and family members, for the last 20 years. She has expressed elation at having got a spot in the management committee. We are really proud of our alumna who has achieved this rare distinction, honour and recognition. We are sure that this is a  major recognition  for the migrant community especially Indians.   Shilpa has shown the way how immigrants can integrate with the locals and empower themselves.
