News from NGSMIPS | Statistical Analysis Using R Programming Software

The Dept. of Pharmacy Practice, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Dept. of Biostatistics, KS Hegde Medical Academy jointly organized a workshop on “Statistical Analysis Using R Programming Software” on 5th & 6th May 2022 at NGSMIPS, Paneer Campus, Deralakatte, Mangaluru.

Prof. (Dr.) C. S. Shastry, Principal of NGSMIPS, delivered the welcome address. He briefly introduced the speakers and stressed the importance of statistical tools in research and encouraged the workshop participants. This was followed by the inaugural address delivered by the Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) Indrani Karunasagar, Director, DST NU-TEC. She congratulated the departments for organizing the workshop and emphasized the importance of “R programming software” in data analysis and various statistical graphical techniques (linear & nonlinear modelling, classical statistical tests, time-series analysis, classification, clustering, etc).  

The resources persons - Ms. Yashaswini, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Statistics, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru and Ms. Shraddha Shetty, Lecturer, Dept. of Biostatistics, KSHEMA, Mangaluru conducted hands-on training in “R Programming Software” for data analysis. The pre and post-tests were conducted to assess the knowledge of the participants. The post-test scores of the participants significantly improved after two days of hands-on training. The workshop received very positive written feedback from the participants.

Ms. Shraddha Shetty, Organizing Secretary, summarized the two-day workshop during the valedictory. Prof. Dr. CS Shastry, Principal of NGSMIPS presented a memento to Ms. Yashaswini and presented participation certificates to all the participants. Dr. Uday Venkat Mateti, Convener, proposed the vote of thanks.
