News from NUINS | International nurses day celebration

International Nurses Day on 12th May, 2022 under the guidance of Dr. Sabitha Nayak, Vice-Principal and Mrs. Melba Drago the SNA Advisor.

The celebration commenced with a brief introduction of the guests by the MCs - Ms. Emima Suresh and Ms. Anagha Augustine and a welcome dance by Ms. Suviksha & team. This was followed by lighting of the lamp and garlanding the portrait of Florence Nightingale, by the dignitaries as a mark of respect and tribute to the founder and pioneer of modern nursing. Ms. Melba Drago, SNA Advisor, NUINS delivered the welcome address.

The Chief Guest of the day was Dr. Leena KC, Principal, Yenepoya Nursing College. The International Nurses Day theme, “Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Invest in Nursing and Respect Rights to Secure Global Health” was unfolded by the chief guest along with the other dignitaries. Dr. Leena K C addressed the gathering and explained the significance of Nurses Day and appealed to the students to imbibe the noble qualities of Florence Nightingale and offer their best in the service of humanity. She also emphasized the need to recognize nurses & their contribution, by the medical fraternity and the society at large.

On this occasion, Covid warriors and the college alumnae Mrs. Rajeevi, In-charge, Covid ICU and Mrs. Vandana Rai, In-charge, MICU were felicitated for their tireless & selfless work during the pandemic under the supervision of Mrs. Jeevitha Alva, Secretary, Alumni Association, NUINS.

The Principal, School of Nursing, Mrs. Cleeta Pinto, delivered the presidential address. She congratulated the students and wished the students and teachers well in their journey forward. She appreciated all the students for working tirelessly in the hospital during the pandemic and expressed that students should keep Florence Nightingale as their role model and always wear a smile on their face at the workplace. The formal program ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Caroline Sequeira, SNA Vice President.

The cultural program commenced with a spectacular eastern traditional dance performance by Ms. Suviksha & team, II BSc (N) followed by a thematic skit by Mr. Aaron & team,I BSc (N). The students of I BSc Nursing wished all the students and staff a happy nurses day with a melodious song. Snacks and refreshments were served to all assembled and the program concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Emima.
