News from NMAMIT | "Git and Github" a hands-on session

Finite Loop Club, NMAMIT, Nitte successfully conducted a hands-on session, “Git and Github”, on 21st May 2022. The session was held at CPP-LAB at NMAMIT, Nitte and had 75 participants. 




The session commenced with beginner-level topics and proceeded to an advanced level. The session began with a brief introduction to Git and Github. A few terms like ‘Version Control’ and ‘Collaboration’ were familiarized to the audience. Students were made aware of the difference between Git and Github and were taught to make commits. They learnt what a repository is; how branching is done in git; how to send, fork, merge and pull requests. This was followed by a lecture on ’Github Issues’ 




Students were taught about the installation of git. An introduction to the Command Line Interface (CLI) was given. The students were briefed on Open Source Contribution and how to contribute. The session ended with the mention of a few git additionals and tricks that come in handy. Overall, it was an insightful and productive session. 




The organizers of the event were Mr. Nagaraj Pandith and Mr. Swasthik Shetty of II CSE. The student volunteers of the event were Bhargavi, Dhanish, Vidyesh, Anjuman, Thejas and Shrilakshmi. The faculty coordinators of the event were Mr. Shashank Shetty, Mr. Puneeth RP, and Mr. Krishna Prasad Rao, Asst. Professor, Dept. of CSE.
