A Cancer Screening Camp was conducted by Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital in association with the Indian Cancer Society on 30th November, 2022 at KSHEMA. The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, ABSMIDS participated by screening patients for Oral Cancer. Prof. (Dr) Arvind Karikal coordinated the camp with postgraduates and interns from the department. Around 40 patients participated in the screening program of which one patient was diagnosed with an ulceration of the left buccal mucosa in the region of 26, 27 due to a sharp tooth. The patient was then further investigated and counselled to be on regular follow-up.
Departments of General Surgery, Oncology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology also actively participated in the camp and conducted screening for breast and cervical cancer.
The Medical Superintendent Prof. Dr Sumalatha coordinated the activities and also concluded the camp with an educational cancer awareness video presentation from Indian Cancer Society for all the participants.
