News from NICO | Nitte DU launches Certificate Course in Yakshagana

On the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti, October 8, 2022, Nitte DU launched a 3-month Certificate Course in Yakshagana. Patla Sathish Shetty, popular Bhagavatha was the Chief Guest and launched the course formally by singing one of his popular songs. “Yakshagana the most popular folk form of coastal Karnataka needs the patronage of Universities for it to be transferred from teacher to student. This initiative by Nitte DU is a step in the right direction”, he said. Prof (Dr) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor, Nitte DU in his presidential address said “Yakshagana is enjoyed and encouraged by people from all religions and communities and as a popular form of entertainment, has always bought people together. This folk form is very dear to the people of coastal Karnataka who are always eager to witness a performance no matter which part of the world they are in”. Along with Patla Sathish Shetty, Kadri Ramachandra Bhat, Yellur popular Yakshagana artiste and Course Instructor was also felicitated on the occasion. The formal function was followed by a prasanga “Luva Kusha” by the students of Ramachandra Bhat Yellur, Prof (Dr) M S Moodithaya, Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Harsha Halahalli, Registrar, Prof (Dr) Sayeegetha, Department of Humanities, Prof Raviraj, Head, Nitte Institute of Communication, were present on the occasion.
