A 2-day Workshop on Food Photography was conducted by Kishan M Rao, popular food stylist and photographer from Mangalore, on 17th & 18th April 2023 at the Institute. A much in demand area of photography, food photographers are hired by top hotels, restaurants and bakeries to style and photograph food and beverages.
Students were taught how to style food to make it look interesting, the effective use of props, lights and camera angles. Popular food items - chicken biryani, samosas, Mangalore buns, burger & fries and beverages - strawberry milkshake and tea, were shot by the photographer.
He explained in detail how food was “prepped” to make it look interesting on camera. If biryani had some olive oil added just before the shot to give it a sheen, dhoop was lit behind the cup of chai to ensure that the fumes rose perfectly. The appropriate use of crockery and cutlery to enhance the overall look and feel was also explained.
Day 2 was reserved for editing, where students got to learn the tools and tricks involved in enhancing the overall look and feel.
The workshop was open to the students of PG Diploma in Photography & Filmmaking and also the final year students of MA.
