News from NGSMIPS | Workshop on Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS)

The Department of Pharmacology, NGSMIPS organized a one-day hands-on workshop on “Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS)” on 27th January 2026 in the Webinar Room, 1st Floor, New Block to strengthen research competence and enhance the statistical analysis skills of faculty members, postgraduates and research scholars. The program was designed to provide practical exposure to SPSS software, which is widely used for data analysis in pharmaceutical sciences, social sciences and healthcare research.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. Gururaja M P, Principal, Vivekananda Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Puttur. The session included a systematic introduction to SPSS, data entry and management, selection of appropriate statistical tests and interpretation of results. The hands-on approach adopted during the workshop enabled participants to apply statistical concepts to real-time research data, thereby helping them to improve their analytical skills.

Dr. Marina Koland, Principal, NGSMIPS highlighted the importance of statistical tools in evidence-based research, publications and academic excellence. Dr. Prasanna Shama K, HoD, Pharmacology, emphasized the relevance of statistical software in pharmacological research and encouraged participants to effectively utilize SPSS in their research work. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Ullas Prakash DSouza along with Dr. Rajesh K S.
