The Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO), in association with the Nitte Film Society, successfully organised a Documentary Film Screening and Discussion on 3rd February 2026, at the institute premises. The programme aimed to expose students to documentary filmmaking practices and to encourage dialogue on community narratives through cinema.
Ms. Kushi welcomed the gathering. The highlight of the event was the screening of the documentary film “All That Glitters - Beneath the Shine”, produced by IV B.A. Documentary Filmmaking students. The film sensitively portrayed the life, labour and cultural significance of the goldsmith community, offering an insightful perspective on a traditional craft often overlooked in mainstream narratives.
Following the screening, Mr. Prakash, Coordinator, Nitte Film Society, introduced the documentary crew to the audience. Selected crew members shared their experiences, discussing the challenges faced during research, fieldwork and production, as well as the learning outcomes of the project.
Dr. S P Gurudas appreciated the students’ effort and emphasised the importance of documenting indigenous knowledge systems and artisan communities. His speech provided valuable academic and social insights, enriching the discussion.
The event was a meaningful learning experience and reinforced the role of documentary cinema as a powerful educational and social tool.
