Dr. K.R. Shetty Centre for Tulu Studies in collaboration with the NAMASTE Centre, Nitte DU celebrated Matrubhasha Divas and Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav on 2nd March 2026 at the University Auditorium, Paneer campus. The event was aimed at promoting linguistic diversity and cultural awareness among the youth.
Dr. Sayeegeetha, HoD of Humanities, NitteDU, welcomed the gathering and introduced the day’s theme. A major highlight of the program was the cultural kaleidoscope presented by students of KSHEMA and NUCSER, who performed traditional dances to represent the various states of India. In addition, faculty and students presented songs, poems and speeches in their native languages.
Chief Guest, Dr. Meenakshi Ramachandra, Retd.HoD of Kannada, Besant Women’s College, Mangalore emphasized the importance of language, its connections with personal identity and heritage. She urged students to embrace and preserve their native dialects. Prof. (Dr) Suma Ballal, Dy. Registrar, NitteDU, supported the initiative of celebrating regional languages. Prof. (Dr) Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER spoke about theimportance of maintaining linguistic diversity within academic institutions to foster a more inclusive environment.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Rajeshwari.
