The Department of Gastroenterology, Nitte Centre for Digestive Disorders, successfully conducted the Third Space Endoscopy & Advanced EUS Workshop on 19th April 2026 at Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital under the guidance of Dr. Chandrashekar Sorake, HoD & Senior Consultant and with support from Dr. Mahesh Menon, Sr. Consultant Gastroenterologist, Aster MIMS, Kottakkal.
The program featured an academic session on EUS-guided coiling and third space endoscopy techniques, followed by extensive live demonstrations of six advanced procedures, including Gastric POEM (G-POEM), EUS for fundal varix, Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) for sigmoid colon tumor, Image-Enhanced Endoscopy (IEE) for early esophageal cancer (two cases) and colonoscopy with EMR and polypectomy.
A key highlight was the G-POEM procedure performed on a young patient with refractory idiopathic gastroparesis, showcasing a novel technique involving submucosal tunneling and pyloric myotomy, which is performed at very few centers in India. The workshop provided valuable real-time learning and hands-on exposure to advanced therapeutic endoscopy for clinicians and staff.
