About the Trust


In 1979, seven committed persons, all sharing the same concern to the cause of education and community development, under the leadership and guidance of Justice K S Hegde formed an association. Justice Hegde, conceived the idea of a trust, which would provide basic education, health care and train manpower. Thus, was born the Nitte Education Trust. It was formally baptised on August 30, 1979.

Justice K S Hegde, the founder was the prime mover of the Trust. With emphasis being laid on education, the Trust established a high school at Nitte in 1979. Today, the Nitte Education Trust comprises a medical, dental and 5 paramedical colleges, 1 Media Studies Institute, 1 banking Institute, a 720 bed speciality hospital, 2 engineering colleges, 2 MBA institutes, 2 MCA institutes, a college of hotel management, 2 technical training institutes, 2 first grade colleges, 2 pre-university colleges, 5 schools and a 3-star hotel – in all 28 Institutions with 74 courses, 15100 students, and 3,500 staff.
